Dr. Prathap  C. Reddy

Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, 75, is a doctor and businessman who founded the first corporate hospitals in India, the Apollo Hospital Group. He is the Executive Chairman of company.

He got his medical education and training in India and USA, and after a few years of practice he saw the obvious absence of world class facilities and established the first Apollo Hospitals in Chennai in 1983. Over the years he has been able to attract the best medical talents to India from all corners of world.

His pioneering approach  and tireless efforts have continued significantly to  the emergence of  the private health care sector in India. For this he got recognition and was honoured with the Padma Vibhushan in 2010.

Healthcare has been always associated either with government's responsibility or of charity organization  and " profit is a dirty word " which was associated with healthcare. Today the medical scenario is almost getting as good as anywhere else in the world and he is one tall figure among pioneer entrepreneurs in the medical field.

The group has now passed on to the second generation where his eldest daughter Sangeeta, 48, has become a torch bearer along with her three sisters. All his daughters are well qualified  and are professionals to the core, which is also a new healthy trend in our country.

Today the group's turnover is approximately Rs.2332 crore and net worth of Rs. 1772 crores and is managing nearly 53 hospitals in India and abroad. The share price as on 03.03.2012 is Rs.571.20. It has been recognised as " Super brand of India " in the healthcare sector.
